Russ is the Founder & Director of Golf for Tornado Tour. His tour conducted over 175 events statewide with prize money nearing 2 million dollars. Some of the players of the Tornado tour included, Joe Ogilvie, who currently is on the PGA tour, Paul Gow from Australia and Dan Olsen, from Columbus, who played the PGA tour in 2002.
Russ is entering his 20th year in radio and has served as a golf analyst on "Wills & Snyder In The Morning".
Russ attended Vermilion High School, where he played 4 years of golf and won the Plain Dealer Junior Golf Tournament at age 15. Russ finished as the 3 time Lorain County Junior Champion through his high school years.
He graduated from Kent State University in May of 1989 with a degree in Secondary Education and Political Science. During college, at age 19, he played his first local qualifier as an amateur in 1984 at Walden and Hudson Golf Courses.
In 1989, at age 24, he played his first open local qualifier as a pro at Tam O’Shanter – Hills & Dales Golf Course in Canton, Ohio. Over the years, Russ has played in 11 local U.S. open qualifiers and 10 Ohio opens.
In 2000, Russ was the golf columnist for the Medina Gazette.
